Speaker: Dr Amee George & Shima Hamidi
Dr Amee George is a Research Fellow in the ACRF Department of Cancer Biology and Therapeutics and heads the ANU Centre for Therapeutic Discovery (ACTD), at the John Curtin School of Medical Research at The Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. She has a keen interest in high-throughput screening and the use of functional genomics-based approaches to investigate the molecular basis of disease. She leads screening-based research investigating diseases of the ribosome (ribosomopathies), in particular, the congenital bone marrow failure disorder Diamond Blackfan Anaemia (DBA), receiving funding from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), the Captain Courageous Foundation and Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision. Dr George also collaborates with national and international researchers from diverse medical research areas who wish to undertake drug and biomarker discovery projects.
This presentation will provide a broad overview of the technology and approaches for high-throughput screening, as well as provide some short vignettes into screening-related research. New screening approaches and examples for how this technology could assist in the infection and immunity research field will also be discussed.
